Strange week
Even after a few years of being a Communist, it can still bother me when the media spends a short week huffing and snorting about how ridiculous it would be that *anyone* in the US would be a Communist, especially in government. A week spent observing liberal blogs howling in derision and starting “rumors” that House Republicans might then be child molesters, because I guess to a certain mind, being a Communist and being a child molester are somehow morally equivalent. Guess we should be grateful it’s not reigniting the Red Scare?
Then the news that an actual Nazi has joined D.C. as a lobbyist of his National Socialist Party. Friday news dump, you know. No biggie. A little chin-stroking that he seems well-behaved. I doubt Joe Scarborough is going to spend all morning raving about Nazi atrocities, as he did with the Allen West story, ripping quotes from the notorious Black Book of Communism.
Here’s a video that only has 661 views. It’s William Z Foster speaking out against Taft-Hartley in 1948. Over 60 years ago, Communists were talking about things that Occupy and the 99% movement are starting to highlight in mainstream media: conditions for workers in the US suck, Wall Street exploits Americans for super-profits, we have laws like Taft-Hartley that bind our hands for further struggle, and we must struggle against the move to create more right-to-work states.
I’m glad West’s accusations didn’t lead to mud sticking to the Progressive Dem Caucus, since they aren’t socialists and don’t deserve to be pilloried for views they don’t hold. I look forward to a day when the name Communist isn’t considered mud in the US, and Nazis don’t feel brave enough to bring their shit into mainstream American politics.
